Apples Steve Jobs

9/2/2011 12:59:24 PM

Well I guess I should make a comment on Steve Jobs leaving Apple just like everyone else in the technology space has over the past few weeks. Are you ready because here it comes! WHO CARES. I DONT.

In my mind Steve made a huge mistake and has suffered for it ever since. Yet people hold him up to be some sort of technology genius. If he had not been greedy. If he had let other companies clone his machines. Then I would be typing this blog from a Mac instead of a PC. Instead of understanding that cost for the general consumer is important he decided he wanted to make money on both ends, software and hardware. So he didn’t let anyone build machines that would run his software. This opened the door for Microsoft and is now why the majority of businesses out there use PCs.

Dont get me wrong I think his stuff is great, but a visionary and genius not so much. I doubt seriously that he has been the driving force behind the latest technological advancements in that company he just happens to be the guy sitting in the corner office and from there his decision have not been ground breaking and revolutionary.

So now I have joined the masses and make a blog about Steve Jobs. Whiles it sucks to see anyone leaving any position because of the circumstances we all know about I do not think it will greatly impact the company. I hope that it will allow the company to start making strategic moves in the areas that Apples skills are most needed. It all depends on who they put at the helm and who he has running the ship beneath him. Maybe some day I will buy an Apple product but at this point I can not bring myself to support someone who was greedy and in his greed lost so much.

Software Languages

7/29/2011 7:56:49 AM

Do we not have enough languages out there? I was a classic asp developer before .NET came out and hit the scene. All the code for Classic ASP was VB based. So why has everyone made the jump to C#?

Well I am good at asking questions but not necessarily good at answering them, especially these questions.

I have decided to make the jump to C# on my next project. It is time to get more skilled in that language. I believe my lack of skills in that language is starting to hold me back.

You can accomplish the same things in both languages. So I at this point do not understand or see if there is a benefit to moving. But no matter what I am making the move. The move should not be too challenging because first the concepts of what I want to do are the same no matter what language I am typing in. When building an application the fundamentals are the same. Data in, crunch data, data out.

The language itself is very similar to javascript. That should give me a leg up as I have been developing with javascript for over 10 years.

So we will see how this journey goes and I am certain I will blog about it. I will be making posts of what I find are different better or worse when making this transition.
