Patents

Do we really need this anymore?

This is something that needs to be considered. For that matter there are plenty of antiquated ways we hold on to during modern times only for the fact that this is how it has been done.

We need to consider does keeping these old ways help or hinder. I do understand that doing away with some things can cause jobs to be lost and so on. But does keeping innovation crippled help or hinder job growth.

Basically there is way too much time and money being spent on the patent system. If you build something and are the first to come up with the idea then you need to be the best at it. Why can’t someone come into your industry and compete with you. If they can do it better or faster then why should you have a legal right to stop them from doing that. It is up to you to find a way to out do them. The patent office provides no value to society it only hinders innovation and competitivness.

So what do you think about this? Do you think it helps or hinders? Could we live without it or is it absolutely necessary? Let me know your thoughts on this in the comments.

Thanks for reading.

Hackers

6/3/2011 9:04:50 AM

There has been tons of news lately on hacking, systems getting hacked, and the vulnerability of our networks and systems. I have a huge problem with this and they way things work in this area.

We have to get the financial people out of the IT business. Here is the scenario. Big businesses look at the numbers because that is what matters most, profits.

It is going to cost me a million dollars to secure and protect my network. It will only cost me 500,000 to recover from a data breach. It makes more financial sense to wait until I get hacked and pay the 500,000. It is the cheaper and more cost effective way to do business. Each year we don’t get hacked we make more money. This way of thinking needs to stop.

Whatever happened to caring about your customers, customer is always right and service first? For a while now this mentality has vanished. I as a small business user want to bring it back and will ensure that this is priority number one in my business dealings. Protect your customers from harm and they will continue to do business with you. They will be loyal even more so in this day and age. Once you realize a company is here for you truthfully and honestly then you will come back for more.

The hacking attacks will continue and things will stay pretty much the same. It will take small business leaders to make the changes start from the bottom up.

This is my call to action for all business leaders to get back to doing what is right and not just what makes money. Stop sacrificing your customers because of profits and start figuring out ways to be a part of the community instead of just another drain on it.
